Jettie Bont

Amsterdam UMC

Background

You know the type – people who find everything fascinating and interesting, stay broad in their pursuits, and dabble in a bit of everything. That’s me to a tee. My broad interests led me to become a GP, my critical mindset and drive for deeper understanding led me to pursue a PhD, and in late 2020, I was appointed as a professor. Driven by collaboration and progress, I joined the board of the LHV, then became head of GP training, and, since June 2020, I’ve led the department of General Practice at Amsterdam UMC. Previously, this department consisted of the general practice departments of both VUmc and AMC – so my primary task now is to successfully guide this merger process.

Motivation

I love creating an inspiring work environment for our team so they can conduct excellent research and train foundational doctors with a broad generalist perspective, preparing them to become committed and skilled GPs, together with the GPs in our region. This is why I accepted this role with complete conviction.

Role within the UNH

As Chair of UNH, I work with the other department heads to form a strong team. I believe that through effective collaboration, we can accomplish so much more.

The importance of UNH

Academic general practice serves as the conscience, the driving force, or perhaps even the foundation of the development of general practice as a whole.
