The UNH Consortium for General Practice Research was established in 2013 by UNH-Research (formerly IOH-R). Through this consortium, we develop a shared vision and policy for scientific research in general practice, as well as the necessary frameworks to support it. We also identify and share opportunities and threats – collaborating to address them effectively.

Generating new scientific knowledge to improve general practice is essential for the sustainability and advancement of primary care. Close alignment and collaboration between university departments make this more promising, impactful, and better.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact in the Netherlands. General practitioners cared for many patients presenting with acute COVID-19 symptoms. In the early phase of the pandemic, there was considerable uncertainty, including about which early pharmacological treatments might prevent severe disease progression.

Within the consortium, the seven departments of General Practice collaborate with Nivel in the GRIP3 programme: General Practice Research Infrastructure Pandemic Preparedness Program.

The university departments constitute the UNH Consortium for General Practice Research, represented by their department heads.
