The UNH Consortium for General Practice Research was established in 2013 by UNH-Research (formerly IOH-R). Through this consortium, we develop a shared vision and policy for scientific research in general practice, as well as the necessary frameworks to support it. We also identify and share opportunities and threats – collaborating to address them effectively.

Generating new scientific knowledge to improve general practice is essential for the sustainability and advancement of primary care. Close alignment and collaboration between university departments make this more promising, impactful, and better.

The COVID-19 pandemic had significant consequences in the Netherlands, with general practitioners managing numerous patients with acute COVID-19 symptoms. At the start of the outbreak, there was widespread uncertainty. For instance, GPs lacked guidance on which early drug treatments might prevent severe disease progression.

Through the consortium, the seven departments of General Practice in collaboration with Nivel, are conducting research via the GRIP3 program: General practice Research Infrastructure Pandemic Preparedness Program.

The university departments constitute the UNH Consortium for General Practice Research, represented by their department heads.
